Screenwriter Interview:
1. How did you discover your passion for screen writing?
I've always been a writer. Many of my family members are writers. I began as a published author, and then I took a screenwriting class that was on the Groupon app. From that experience...I was hooked.
2. Who has been your biggest influence in the movie industry?
My biggest influence would be Tyler Perry. He pulled himself out of poverty and built an empire. I like that he doesn't pay attention to his critics.

3. Who are two actors you would like to work with, why?
The two actors I would like to work with are Kendrick Lamar (I know he is a singer, but he has shown he has dope acting skills. The other person is Chrystee Pharris, she was in a soap opera some years ago. Chrystee was willing to work with me on my first film, but my finances wouldn't allow it because she would have had a main role and I would have been responsible for her lodging and food. I promised her if I ever got the opportunity, I would include her in one of my projects.
4. How many screenplays or scripts have written and or have produced? List titles please.
I've written numerous screenplays for clients, one of the screenplays, Sharswood, was produced in Georgia. I was the producer on the project. The features I've written for Maydwell Productions LLC are Shattered Perceptions (based on a novel my sister and I wrote), The Conductor (film festival semi-finalist) , four time film festival award-winning Serenity Acres, award-winning DELETE (it's in the Atlanta Women's Film Festival this month, three versions of Momentos, The Game, 14 Storys three honorable mentions, honorable mention Izzy's Secret, and Winter Wolves (co-written with a fellow writer). None of these have been produced. My episodic scripts are The Landing Pad ( I plan to pitch it at a pitch fest at the end of the month). Some of my screenplays from my Trees series are Treehouse Blues, The Sugar Maple Tree, and Branch 542. Woke up Black(co-written with a fellow creative), on the Fishing Bank with Grandpa, and Kings (co-written with my nephew Brenden). None of these episodes have been produced, YET!
My features that have been produced are My Brother's Shadow (waiting for distribution)and The Final Round (a documentary on Amazon, Apple TV, Vimeo, Fandango, and AARP on the 25th). I wrote and produced a documentary about female boxers called Hit Like a Girl. It is in post-production.
My episodic screenplays that have been produced are Sharswood, Cooper's Plantation (on YouTube), seven-time award winning Broken Branches (filmed in Lithuania), and three-time award-winning Grandma's Closet (you can see the proof-of-concept on my website Grandmascloset.org under the film festival tab. (anticipating good news on this project soon).
5. What are some pitfalls you've experienced in your career?
The pitfalls I have faced are trusting the wrong people and COVID ( I left my teaching position to move to Georgia to make movies, and then COVID shut the world down).

6. What are your best experiences in your career?
The best experiences have been meeting other like-minded creatives, collaborating on projects, and being on film sets.
7. Are you independent or do you have a contract with a movie producer?
Currently, I am an independent filmmaker. This may change by the time you conduct the interview.
8. What is your all time favorite movie or movies? Why? Would you change anything about the story plot?
My favorite movie is Harlem Nights. I would not change one thing about this movie. That is why it is one of the few movies that I can watch over and over.
