Lisa Fedel

Author Bio: Lisa Fedel hates talking about herself, and in fact found writing her author bio synonymous to setting up a dating profile. When she must, however, she chooses to use the funnel method, which is the most fun way to write essays. She is a font fanatic (Comic Sans FTW) with a traumatic brain injury and an interest in everything serial killer and cryptid (hey, they tell you to “write what you know”). She became an author purely out of spite to prove she could do it. For reasons far beyond her comprehension, while writing her zombie novel, she decided to go vegan. She has been to Springfield, Ohio once.

Author Interview:

1.What inspires you most to write?

At the risk of sounding cliche, I get my inspiration from the things that have happened to me. My life's always been kind of strange, and I found a lot of comfort in processing it in my writing.

2. What is your favorite genre?

My favorite genre is definitely straight-up horror.

3. Who is one author you admire if any and why?

An author who I'll always recommend to people due to how interesting and morbid his books are is Brom.

4. How do you overcome blank writing spells?

Any time I'm going through a bout of writer's block, the only real way I can overcome it is by taking a break and working on other projects for a little while. Sometimes, you just have to step away and come back at something with a clear head.

5. What legal publishing advice can you give?

In terms of legal publishing advice, make sure to buy your own ISBNs and verify them on Bowker.

6. How many books have you written, are any a bestseller yet?

I have two books out so far, and no bestsellers yet.

7. If you had the opportunity to rewrite one movie script which would it be, why?

I'm actively in the middle of turning my first book into a screenplay with the help of my close friend, Josh Wynn, and hope to do this with all of my books.

8. What are some difficulties you've experienced in your writing career; how do you handle book critiques/criticism?

In terms of difficulties, any time I was in a relationship, I never really felt like I could switch into writer mode, so I wasn't able to get as much done as I would have liked.

9. What are your best experiences in your writing career?

Funny enough, my best experiences so far have been the times I've been recognized as an author through the webshow (NC-17) that I do.

10. Do you prefer to write in silence and or have some sort sound in the background?

I like writing without any background noise, since I play out the entire scene in my head like a movie while I write.

11. What are some encouraging words you'd give to another author/writer?

If I were to give some encouraging words to another author, I'd say to do this because it's fun, and that the more you do it, the better you'll get. Don't dwell on past mistakes, just focus on the future.

12. How did you decide the pricing of your material; how did you go about promotion/advertising and distribution of your work?

I chose the price of my novel based on other books in the market and I used online advertisements to market.

13. Why should anyone read your book?

People should read my book because it's such a different take on the zombie apocalypse. I tried to add a lot of elements I'd never seen, and I feel that I added a lot of diferent plot points that got expanded and will continue the more I write.

14. Did you have a book coach?

I had a book coach for a little while as I was writing the first book in the series (to work on polishing it), but that doesn't feel like a necessity now that I've created the book's universe.

15. What was your favorite subject in school?

It probably won't come as a shock to anybody that my favorite subject in school was always English.

16. Are you self-published or have an established publishing contract elsewhere?

I'm self-published because I don't like having a deadline, but I am thinking about submitting my books for publication with an actual publishing house after I have a few more of them finished.
