Author Bio: Kenya Rodgers, known by her pen name K.L. Rodgers, was born in 1982 in Williamston, North Carolina. She now resides in Greenville, NC with her two sons. With both an Associate and Bachelor’s degree, Kenya has always been a lifelong learner. From an early fascination with crystals and tarot cards to a deep passion for meditation and channeling ancestors, her journey has been guided by spiritual exploration. "The Power Within: Mystical Beings" Is her first published work—an inspiring debut that blends her personal experiences with timeless mystical wisdom.

Author Writer Interview:


1.What inspires you most to write?

My sons because they motivates me, supports me and pushes me to continue moving forward depsite the struggles I face in my life.


2. What is your favorite genre?

Fantasy


3. Who is one author you admire if any and why?

JK Rowling because she was a single mother struggling in poverty while battling depression. She also overcome a toxic relationship and domestic abuse. I connect with her on a personal level because we have a similar background and I am also a survivor of domestic abuse.


4. How do you overcome blank writing spells?

Taking a long walk on the nature trail with my sons and we converse about different ideas for the book and chapters.


5. What legal publishing advice can you give?

Understanding all legal requirements such as copywriting. Protecting your work from unauthorized copying and distribution.


6. How many books have you written, are any a bestseller yet?

I have written one and the book isn’t a bestseller yet.


7. If you had the opportunity to rewrite one movie script which would it be, why?

The Wizard of Oz. I would have Dorothy wear silver shoes to symbolize self determination. She will bring her family to oz and rebuild the broken world and make the world a happier and meaningful place.


8. What are some difficulties you've experienced in your writing career; how do you handle book critiques/criticism? Low pay rate of job caused financial stress, developing a unique writing style, fear of having my work being rejected and and having confidence in my work. I handle criticism by listening calmly without being defensive, thank them for their feedback and reflect on what was said for my personal and professional growth.


9. What are your best experiences in your writing career?

Meeting new people, meeting fans, and being recognized as an author.


10. Do you prefer to write in silence and or have some sort sound in the background?

Write in silence so I can hear my ancestors speak to me.

11. What are some encouraging words you'd give to another author/writer?

Never give up, when you come to a roadblock find a way to get around that roadblock and when people doubt you show them that you are a true star.


12. How did you decide the pricing of your material; how did you go about promotion/advertising and distribution of your work?

I wanted my book to be affordable so everyone will have a chance to purchase my book. I promoted my book on social media, word of mouth, family and friends.


13. Why should anyone read your book?

It gives a message about finding yourself, acceptance of being different, and walking into your true purpose in life.

15. What was your favorite subject in school?

Science and Math


16. Are you self-published or have an established publishing contract elsewhere?
