Born in Harlem in the 1970s to Jamaican parents and raised in The Bronx, Duane Reeves grew up immersed in both the vibrant pulse of New York City and the rich cultural traditions of his heritage. It was here that his love for poetry and spoken word came into being
In 1997, Reeves earned his membership into the Army Signal Corps, serving with dedication until 2013. He was in New York during 9/11, an experience that shaped his perspective on resilience and duty. In 2002, he relocated to Pennsylvania to help manage his family’s restaurant business, but his creative spirit never wavered and during this time, he founded OpenSoul-CVOE, a Lancaster-based poetry troupe committed to spoken-word artistry and cultural storytelling performing shows at Millersville University and THE YMCA of Lancaster , as well as various businesses and schools through-out the Susquahanna Valley.

Through all the chapters of his life—soldier, entrepreneur, artist, husband, brother, father of ten—writing remained the constant. Poetry, storytelling, and artistic expression have always been his true calling, serving as both the beginning and the end game of his journey.
In 2025, Reeves released his first published work, cementing his place as an author whose words resonate with deep cultural roots, lived experiences, and a raw, unapologetic voice.
He is also the owner of a Digital Art store on Etsy focused on Graphics influenced by Prince Hall and OES doctrine and mysticism.
