Author/Writer Interview:

1.What inspires you most to write?

I always enjoyed writing and public speaking. My passion for Black history became my inspiration for writing.

2. What is your favorite genre?

Nonfiction Black culture/historical writings. I enjoy reading biographies as well as true accounts of Black history or cultural events.

3. Who is one author you admire if any and why?

I admire Ben Jochannan because his research is so in depth he writes infallible truths.

4. How do you overcome blank writing spells?

I began with what I know best and what is easiest to get out and let it lead me to other parts of the essay/article/book.

5. What legal publishing advice can you give?

Please beware of publishing houses that claim they have a relationship with large publishing or distribution companies. Have them arrange a zoom meeting with the representative that you can identify on the company website.

6. How many books have you written, are any a bestseller yet?

3 books one Amazon bestseller: Florida's Negro War

7. If you had the opportunity to rewrite one movie script which would it be, why?

I would rewrite Bingo and the All Stars and make it a drama not a comedy.

8. What are some difficulties you've experienced in your writing career; how do you handle book critiques/criticism?

My only difficulty stemmed from my underestimation of the effort needed in marketing self published books. I was a grad student and Ph.D. student so I am quite used to heavy critiques. I believe that critiques/criticism will only make my writing better.

9. What are your best experiences in your writing career?

My best experience was when Loius Gossett Jr. read my book and became a producer of the film adaptation.

10. Do you prefer to write in silence and or have some sort sound in the background?

Yes, I need complete silence when I write.

11. What are some encouraging words you'd give to another author/writer?

Do not shy away from critiques. Embrace them, just because you expressed it well in your head does not always mean it came out on paper as such.

12. How did you decide the pricing of your material; how did you go about promotion/advertising and distribution of your work?

I came up with the pricing from measuring the cost of an average academis book with the average public history book.

13. Why should anyone read your book?

My books enlighten readers to the positive and true aspects of life, history and cuture.

14. Did you have a book coach?

No. I went from publishing academic articles to writng books.

15. What was your favorite subject in school?

History

16. Are you self-published or have an established publishing contract elsewhere?

Self Published
