CINO

I’m Tarrell DeLoach — everyone calls me CINO, which basically means Mr. Self-Motivated. I’m a director and screenwriter for my own production company, which has been around for over five years now, but I have over 20 years in the business.

Screenwriter Interview:

1. How did you discover your passion for screenwriting?

I always had a passion for words and never really understood it, but last year was when I finally stopped procrastinating and jumped off the porch with my ideas — really started putting them down on paper. I’m unconventional with my ideas and how I get the job done, so it’s normal to me but off the wall to most. But hey, it works. Lol.

2. Who has been your biggest influence in the movie industry?

Robert Townsend, Seth Rogen, Spike Lee, 50 Cent, Denzel, and Al Pacino — man, the list can go on. It really just depends on the genre, frfr.

3. Who are two actors you would like to work with, and why?

All of them! But just to name a few, I’d say Brian Hooks, Denzel Washington, Seth Rogen, Craig Robinson, and Tessa Thompson. Each of them brings something real and unique to the screen. They’re authentic in what they do, and I like people who bring their full energy to a role — not just acting, but living it.

4. How many screenplays or scripts have you written and/or produced? List titles please.

The Carpet Man Season 1, That’s My Wife Season 1, and A Night at My Cousin’s House — all in-house productions. But I’ve also helped on many other people’s projects as a producer or co-director.

5. What are some pitfalls you’ve experienced in your career?

Waiting on others, overthinking, and realizing you’re the only one stopping your own motion. You gotta get out the mirror and get it cracking. Too many talking mfkas, not enough solutions.

6. What are your best experiences in your career?

All of them — they mold you, good or bad. Getting paid to travel and film is cool. Getting paid to learn is cool. The access, the networking opportunities, and helping others has been super rewarding. I’d say my best experience was finally getting out of my head and jumping off the porch — creating a community and experiences for others to build their name and platform in the business has been the best part by far.

7. Are you independent or under contract with a producer?

Independent — all in-house activities over here under CiNo Productions, 24Frames Animation Studio, Clocked In TV, and StareTV.

8. What is your all-time favorite movie or movies? Why? Would you change anything about the story plot?

The Breaks, Life, Next Day Air, Heat, Lawle

Scarface, 3 Strikes — all classics. They’ve each got their own vibe, story, and energy that hits different. I wouldn’t change a thing about them.
